Ray Devarshi Gangopadhyay Mazumdar Choudhury, alias Devarshi Roy Choudhury...yes that's myself! It is my utmost pride that I have born in the illustrias family of Sabarna Roy Choudhury of Bengal, which for centuries has been a famous neme for history, heritage and culture.
My life too revolvs around history and heritage. I love history, I live by history and theree is nothing more than history...
Being and educator, historiographer and the curator of Sabarna Sangrahashala, and working as the Joint Secretary of Sabarna Roy Choudhury Paribar Parishad- my family organisation, my 24 hours go through studies and teaching. However I love to write also, and besides having written a book called Quiz Katha, I am also the editor of Bangiya Sabarna Katha, Kalishetra Kalikatah- a book on family history. A Few of my research articles have been published in different newspapers and magazines.
My opinion about life and history certainly do not please everyone, for my views and philosophy is somewhat different from normal thinking and understanding. I believe that every history has two different faces just like the Roman God Janus who is believed to have two faces facing different directions. I analyze events from my point of view and just desire that my students or anyone else might think about it for a while from my angle.
My greatest achievement of life happened on May 16, 2003 when upon our petition PIL- W.P 1484/ 2001 and based on the Expert Committee Report, the Division Bench of the Chief Justice Ashoke Kumar Mathur and Justice Jayanta Banerjee, in a landmark judgement, declared that British Agent Job Charnock no more can be regarded as the founder of Kolkata. Also 24 August shouldn't be regarded as the city's birthdate. Thus a myth was exposed and truth prevailed. The British claim of having founded the city of Calcutta / Kolkata thus fell down. The history of the city, regarded as the second capital of the British Empire was proved false. Kolkata was not a British creation, the world came to know about it... I was one of the mastermind and petitioner for the case. It was like a freedom struggle to me. Yes, I won the battle.
In personal relationships too, I am quite strict about everything and my only wish is that the person in front of me should be honest and truthful. As a matter of fact I do not believe in friendship, I believe in true relationships that might come in any form and figure...! A Relationship that shall remain true in every birth...
